The Training You Can Expect

What type of training is provided for Community Corrections Officers?

Newly-recruited Community Corrections Officers receive almost two months of training that includes training in a classroom and on-the-job training and development at a Community Correctional Services location. You will complete this training with other trainee Community Corrections Officers. This allows you to create strong and lasting work relationships with your colleagues.

This will be followed by a formal induction period of 18 months which includes on-the-job supervision ad support, self-paced learning and classroom based training. This allows the new Community Corrections Officers to gradually develop all the skills and knowledge they need to perform the full range of job functions and to gain a nationally recognised qualification: the Certificate IV in Correctional Practice (Community).

While work as a Community Corrections Officer is diverse and may entail a number of different duties on any given day, training cannot prepare you for every possible situation that may arise in the corrections environment. In these situations you will be guided by senior staff and trained specialists, and Corrections Victoria legislation, standards and procedures.

How is the training conducted?
The various learning modules are delivered in an interactive way, and will include presentations, individual and group activities, role playing and on-the-job placement, plus assessments of, and feedback on your progress.
